Fall is my favorite season for obvious reasons; lighter temperatures, warm coffee, fall leaves and finally getting to dress with a jacket. Houston still has quite a while before we’ll be able to enjoy fall temperatures but there’s no better time to prepare for fall than now. I buy a few of the following six items to rotate every season and it lasts me throughout the winter.
Turtlenecks
Turtlenecks are simple staples that give you a classic look. I keep solid black and white ones to go under coats and especially love them with a slick pony and a bold lip.
Sweaters
Because winter here doesn’t usually drop below 60, coats aren’t always necessary. I tend to buy sweaters that can make an outfit themselves or be worn under a light jacket. I prefer oversized knit sweaters when I’m wearing them with leggings so that my butt is covered and opt for fitted sweaters to pair with denim.
Leggings
I always say I hate them, but they’re necessary when you’re layering. Leggings under a sweater, cardigan, trench paired with boots or sneakers is an easy go-to. I try to stay away from solid black cloth leggings since they’ve been given a bad name, but there are plenty of exceptions.
Leather
This is the only time I can wear leather without it sticking to me, so best beliiiieve I take advantage of it. It adds edge to any outfit. Don’t be so worried about your leather looking “cheap”, faux leather is fine. If you scroll down the Saks website you’ll see some pretty skeptical $1000 items meaning that, we can’t always tell.
Boots
I’m the woman with no self control who buys five different styles of boots all in black each fall. This fall I plan to switch it up with a gray and taupe pair. I’ve been trying to jump on the chunky heel wave but I just don’t think it’s my style. I might bite the bullet and start with this pair.
Coats
I can admit, I don’t wear coats for warmth. I typically use them as accessories to bring my outfits together. Necessities for me are denim, cargo and bomber jackets, as well as a trench and pea coat. Try throwing in a poncho or cape paired with skinny jeans and booties.
