If you haven’t heard about the Nordstrom sale just yet, you very likely will soon. And often. If you follow any other fashion bloggers, they will likely #NSale you to death over the course of the next few weeks. Realistically, the Nordstrom sale is a sale I’ve been shopping since before I was a blogger and is my favorite each year for stocking up on staples that I’ve worn year after year, some of my favorite coats and shoes, and especially Fall and Winter essentials that are too pricey for me to buy at full price. The sale is HUGE and can be overwhelming, but because I’ve been shopping it for so many years I know how to get through to the good stuff and want you all to have the same advantage.
WHAT IS THE “NSALE”?
I asked this question on my Instastory and SO many of you have never heard of this sale! If you’ve been following me for a while, you know sales are my preference and I find few things more exciting than a piece I love at a discounted price. Unlike other sales that mark down old or last season’s trends, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale has their newest items (both Summer and Fall finds) discounted by up to 40% off from brands like Tory Burch, TopShop, MAC, Stuart Weitzman, Free People, Steve Madden and SO many others. The sale runs for 3.5 weeks with new items added each day and at the end of the sale, everything goes back to full price. The items run out QUICKLY, so I try my best to shop the sale as early as possible to get everything I want before it sells out. You can view some of the first items that will go on sale here. I’ve already done some deep diving to organize what I’m going to look for and plan to purchase.
WHEN DOES THE NSALE START?
- July 12th, 12:30 pm EST Early Access begins for Nordstrom Cardholders
- July 19th The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale opens to the public
- August 4th The sale ends and items return back to full price
HOW SHOULD I PREP?
1. GET THE NORDSTROM CREDIT CARD
Credit cards are ONLY for the financially responsible. If you know that that’s not you, skip to #2. Only Nordstrom cardholders will gain access on July 12th – which is when I’ll shop the sale. The reason this matters is because most of the good stuff will sell out before public access even opens. It happens every year, so I’d rather be prepared than disappointed. I finally bit the bullet last year and applied for the credit card because after years of not having it, I know better. I’m generally entirely against getting retail credit cards (i.e. Best Buy, Target) but there are perks that come with this one, and it’s the same amount of money that I’d spend even if I didn’t have it. I give myself a budget, put it on my card, and pay it off immediately. If you want to shop the sale early, APPLY ASAP so you can be approved before early access starts. If you make a Nordstrom purchase the same day you’re approved, you will get a $60 Nordstrom note (aka FREE money). Apply here.
PRO TIP: Make sure you add your card to your Nordstrom online account before the sale starts so you’re completely ready to shop when it’s go time!
2. MAKE A LIST OF WHAT YOU NEED
The sale will have a ton of new items geared for Fall/Winter but there will also be items that you can wear now. While you might not be ready just yet to think about cold weather clothing, I prefer to plan ahead and take advantage of the sales on the coats, sweaters and boots I’m going to regret not buying when Winter comes. In years past my favorite items to shop for were leather boots, lightweight jackets, designer purses, jeans, everyday tops and beauty items. Generally, I’ll make a list of 10 items that I’ve been wanting (a peacoat, thigh high boots, chunky sweaters), or really need and start with those. Once I hit my budget, check me out!
3. LET ME DO THE HARD WORK
I’ll already be doing it for myself, so I’m happy to make different guides based off of what I think will sell out, the brands worth looking through, and staples worth buying. I’ll also do a try on of the items I get and love because you guys seem to love seeing them!
If you want to share what items you are shopping for this year, please do! Comment below and let me know what type of items you are looking for. I will be making a list and shopping those items as soon as the sale goes live. While the Nordstrom Sale will have hundredssss of pages of sale items, I take a lot of pride in finding you guys the best deals and pieces 😉 So send me your lists so that I can be sure to keep an eye out for you. I’ll also try my best to pay attention to items as they restock, hoping that they will!
4. SHOP ONLINE!
I have never, ever, once, shopping the Nordstrom sale in store. Even thinking about parking at the mall, let alone scouring through the store instantly makes me feel overwhelmed. I much rather prefer to get an early morning start, with a cup of coffee, and shop from the comfort of my own couch. The best part about it is, if you’re worried about sizing, order two and return the one that doesn’t work. Nordstrom offers free shipping and returns + really affordable expedited shipping compared to a lot of retailers. However, if you need your purchase same-day, you can still complete your purchase online and either pick it up in-store or have it brought to you curbside!
