Before we knew the gender of our baby, we swore we were going to go with a gender neutral nursery regardless of the sex. Gender neutral for me usually means black, white and gray… Like everything else in our house. Once we found out he was a boy, I absolutely knew blue would not have a place in his room. We also knew we didn’t necessarily want a “baby” room, since he’d quickly grow out of that phase.
While laying in bed around 20 weeks, I put together his nursery mood board using Canva and quick Google searches. Immediately, I knew it was perfect and exactly what I wanted for him. Knowing that we’d spend so many early mornings and late nights in that space, I wanted it to feel good to us as parents too.
All furniture – the crib, dresser, changing table, and glider are made by BabyLetto. I mixed black and white furniture instead of going with an entire matching set and love it so much more that way. I used the rug to warm the space up a bit instead of it being stark white and decided that olive green would be the accent color.
It took around six weeks to complete the entire nursery, from the wall paneling and wallpaper, done by @ckwalldesigns, to furniture arrival and then getting the smaller items like the mirror and bookshelves hung. This will eventually be his “big boy” room so I’m incredibly pleased knowing that he won’t grow out of this in just a few months.
As he begins to accumulate more items like toys, books and things we need shelving for, we plan to purchase this BabyLetto bookcase to put between the doorways at the entrance of his room. But I wanted to be intentional about not overcrowding the space before we actually need anything.
We know for the first few months he’ll likely be living downstairs with us and won’t get much use out of this room. However, I do plan to do some crib napping during the day so that he’s used to the space. As well as a bedtime routine, even if we’re not putting him down in his room. All of his clothes are already washed, folded and organized by size. Now we just wait for his arrival!
