Homecoming is coming up! This will be my first homecoming as an alumna. Do you have any suggestions on what to wear to the football game/tailgate and to the parties?
The one and only time I went to homecoming was the first year after I graduated, don’t judge! LOL I was always antisocial in college. Here’s what I wore to mine when I went, but it will all depend on the weather. If you’re heading to the game or tailgate, a college t-shirt or sweatshirt is plenty, with a pair of jeans or joggers and comfy flats like Vans or running shoes. Or even a t-shirt or sweater dress and some Chuck Taylor’s. Don’t be that overdressed girl with heels or boots on at homecoming LOL save that for when the sun goes down. If you’re like me and don’t own any college paraphernalia, opt for a tee and moto jacket. As far as going out, make it sexy! A dress and thigh high boots or any of the options below. Enjoy yourself!
What are your top 5 budget friendly websites to order from online? Just discovered Romwe but I’m skeptical about the low prices.
Unless I’m searching for something specific, I generally shop on the same sites over and over. I browse Forever 21, ASOS, Missguided, Boohoo, and have recently made quite a few purchases on Pretty Little Things because they had a 50% off sale. I consistently shop at Nordstrom and Revolve but mostly classics, staples or basics that I want to last me. I purchased about 9 items for my Cuba trip from Romwe and was very pleased with them. The quality wasn’t the greatest and I wouldn’t bet on their longevity, but for something you only plan to wear a few times, it’s worth the $12 LOL. My favorite swimsuit sites are Zaful and Amazon when I want to buy several and don’t want to spend a ton. The only thing I worry about when ordering from sites like Romwe and Pretty Little Things is shipping time. They’re not U.S. based companies and so items make take much longer to get to you.
What are the best tips to stay motivated and disciplined in career, life, etc.?
The best tip I can give it to want it on a daily basis. I make this same mistake and have to catch myself. You know that determination we have when we first start a new job? The determination to make the best of everyday, come in and handle business and present new and effective ways to get things done? It eventually fizzles out, just like everything else in life. It’s our job to keep it alive. I feel burnt out every now and then and have to remind myself that I don’t want to stay where I’m at, so unless I aim for more, work harder, go higher, and get more strategic, that I won’t grow or have more. I gave up making excuses (for the most part, but I’m human), so when my alarm goes off at 5:30 am to get up for the gym, I just jump up. When a task comes my way that I’ve been dreading doing, I take the time to knock it out so that I can move on. Tackle things confidently and always look for what’s next, because everything gets better. Adding a relationship to my plate has been a blessing, but it’s also caused me to have to take a step back and redesign how I originally had things organized. Make lists of what you want to accomplish within the next 3 months and work towards them daily. Once you begin to cross off things you said you wanted to do, it makes it easier to continue to work for them.
How did you grow your nails so long? They look amazing!
Thank you! I don’t have much maintenance for my nails other than getting them done every two weeks, but I do take these Skin, Hair and Nail gummy vitamins. They taste like candy so I never forget to take them. I get an acrylic powder put over my nails so that they don’t break.
I also work an office job and find it so difficult to be productive while sitting at a desk 8 hours a day. How do you stay focused and on track while at your desk during the week?
I really am against sitting at my desk all day long. In all honesty, it’s just not healthy. You should really be taking breaks, getting some movement in and at least a lunch away from your computer, but most days I don’t. I start my mornings with a cup of coffee and that gets me going on the right foot. I almost always listen to something, whether it be smooth jazz or a rap album that makes me want to hustle. Once I get logged onto my computer, I write down a quick “must do” list for that day, along with other things that cross my mind that could be done, then get to work on those. I rotate podcasts, but my favorite is “How I Built This“. After lunch I normally hit a slump where I feel antsy or tired and can’t focus. This blueberry green tea helps me big time. One cup and I feel refreshed and am ready to get back to it. Drinks lots of water and keep some “good” snacks on hand (almonds, peanut butter, fresh fruit). Time moves quickly and I admit that I feel guilt when I don’t take advantage of every hour of every day since my to-do list is almost never ends.
I don’t even know where to start with this question but long story short – I need new clothes! Lol can you give me a hand full of what your favorite items are right now?
Lol I feel you girl! I’ve spend an uncomfortable amount of money these last few weeks buying things I felt like I needed to prepare for the upcoming months. Here are some things I’m loving –
We have similar curl patterns and I was wondering what your favorite curly hair products are right now?
Please don’t be fooled, I probably only wear my curls a few times a month. Since my curls are still in a “healing” stage, I don’t find them convenient just yet since they require so much care. When I do wear my curls, I either wash my hair with Kevin Murphy shampoo and conditioner or Deva Curl’s No Poo Shampoo and Conditioner. This Shea Moisture curl enhancing smoothie is what I do first, mixed with Miss Jessie’s Leave-In Conditioner and those two really help combat frizz for me. Lastly, I’ll mix Deva Curl Styling Cream with Deva Curl Styling Gel and comb through with a Denman Brush. I diffuse my hair with this diffuser until it’s about 80% dry, then air dry the rest of the way. The key is to not touch your curls until they’re completely dry. Once they are, I’ll turn my head over and shake my curls out. Voila!
Thank you all for the #CoffeeTalk questions! I’m trying my best to get my life back in order after the Hurricane and had a health scare take me out for a few days this week. As much as I preach about working hard, I want to preach taking care of yourself physically and mentally just as much! As always, send your questions to me via email or comment below. Enjoy your weekend!
