I’m in the education field and currently getting my masters in school counseling. I’ve been wondering if you have any suggestion for climbing the education ladder?
I have absolutely no experience in education, other than attending a 4-year university LOL but my best friend Anais is actually on a very similar path, so I consulted with her to help answer this. Education is incredibly broad, so you’d first have to map out the field of education you desire to work within. Do you want to be a principle, behavioral support, college initiatives, education policy? Once you determine that, research the route that’s typical when traveling on that path. Try working through my Brand Beginnings Werkbook. That will help you either A) help you goal set and plan to move up the education “corporate” ladder, or B) ignite a fire to possibly start your own business, school, or nonprofit in that specific field of education. I hope this helps!
I know you’ve been so super busy wrapping up the end of the year, but we all want to know… Have you started wedding planning? We’re patiently waiting on Instagram updates. You’re going to make such a gorgeous bride!
Thank you so much! We’ve been doing so much the last six months of this year – got engaged, made it through a hurricane, moved in together, he started a new job, and celebrated his birthday all while I was working full-time, running a blog and rearranging what balance looks like to me. We’re tired! LOL We haven’t determined anything for the wedding just yet, other than what month we’d like to get married. We hired a wedding planner about two months ago and are definitely excited to get started! I’m actually doing my first dress fitting tomorrow and will record for you to guys to watch.
I have recently broke up with my boyfriend. And it’s really time to let him go. We still follow each other on social media. He’s still liking my pics and watching my snaps. All of my friends keep telling me that I should unfollow him on social media to fully move on from him. And don’t let him have the power of allowing him see your life when he doesn’t want to be in it in real life. I understand where they are coming “out of sight out of mind”. When it was time to move on with your life from your ex’s did you unfollow them on social media in order to move on with your life? Also, if you did unfollow them do you think that was best to move on with your life to open the door for your fiancé now?
Girl, DELETE, DELETE, DELETE. If he’s not wanting to be in your life on your terms, remove him in all the ways you can. I wouldn’t block him from seeing what you post, but I understand there’s a ton of pressure to “look” like you’re living a great life because you know he’s watching. You don’t want that. You want to be able to live authentically without having to put up a facade of “my life is so great without you!”. Don’t go out of your way on social media to prove anything to him, just live your life. My last long-term boyfriend got deleted from my entire life after our breakup because that’s what I needed to do for my own mental health. I didn’t care to know what he was doing or with who. It didn’t necessarily open the door to my fiance, because I was single for three years before dating him – but it definitely opened the door for me to breathe a bit easier in my day-to-day life. I didn’t allow myself to obsess over the past. I didn’t check his page, or go through my likes to see if he’d liked my photos. I just moved on because I deserved to.
I saw that you were a brand ambassador for a lot of companies. Is there any advice that you could give me so that I could become a brand ambassador myself?
I’m actually not a brand ambassador. Any of the products that you see me promote are likely because I, 1) love them and use them or 2) love them, use them, and have been asked to partner with them. The campaigns I collaborate on are likely for only about a span of a month, while brand ambassadorship can last for years and come with much more strict regulations. If you want to work with a company, find ways to reach out to them. Send them a DM on Instagram, find an email where you can reach their PR person, introduce yourself and express your interest. It’s worth a shot!
Are you done with Christmas shopping? I’m so last minute! What are some items you really liked but didn’t make your checkout?
I’m done shopping because I’m out of money, but not because I want to be! LOL There were so many good things I wanted to gift that I ended up not getting. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t still going to purchase them. See a few of them below –
What inspires your style? It’s very elegant and classic!
Thank you! I honestly can’t tell you what inspires my style, I just like what I like. The most important thing I look for is versatility. Can I wear this blazer to work, out or to dinner? Can I pair this job with a skirt, jeans, and patterned pants? Sold. I think I still have a sexy style, but there are definitely ways to do that while remaining tasteful. I’m trying to wear as many plunge blouses and backless dresses I can before I become somebodies mama! LOL
On days when you don’t feel like doing anything, how do you motivate yourself?
I think about all of the things I’ve already accomplished for myself and realize that I can make do ten times more, ten times better. The thought of that excites me. The thought of bringing in ten times more money, working with brands I love ten times more often, and helping hundreds more women do the same thing for themselves is what pushes me. I spoke about this briefly in this post, but being engaged has also upped my hustle quite a bit. We have to pay for a wedding, we want to purchase a home. Those things take a LOT of money. It’s important that I give the best version of myself at all times, in everything I do and it’s even more important that I bring something to the table. He’s currently the breadwinner (and I’m not broke!), but wanting to meet him where he’s at pushes me as well.
What were your most dependable workout shoes this year? I’m planning to jump back into a workout routine January 1st and need some good options!
I honestly rotate about 8 pairs of Nike and Adidas running shoes LOL. It’s hard to go wrong with either of them but my favorites are Nike Flyknit’s and Adidas NMD’s. Here are some great options to pick from –
Have you ever made a vision board? I’m thinking of planning something for my closest friends to get intentional about what we want this upcoming year, but I don’t want to waste their time putting cut out words onto a poster board.
I’ve made a few, even though it’s been at least two years. I made one when I first started working with my current company in 2014 and tacked it to my cubicle wall. It had a new white BMW on it, lovers toasting in a bathtub, a typewriter because I wanted to turn my words into something, a home office and and a few other things that have truly come to fruition. I believe that if you see what you want, you may not know how you’re going to get it that day, but you will work towards the desires of your heart until it comes full circle. I’m shocked at how the way I envisioned my life is the way it’s actually going, and I’m not exaggerating.
What’s your “can’t live without” skincare product?
I have really sensitive skin, so I’m always rotating different products so one doesn’t get the chance to wear my face out. One beauty product I use on a daily is this Drunk Elephant tinted moisturizing SPF under my foundation or BB Cream. It moisturizes AND mattifies my skin, which is great because I’m oily. I bought a Clarisonic recently as well and it’s LIFE CHANGING! Face washing will never be the same and it’s currently on sale for $99. After getting a facial last week, my esthitician suggested I cleanse my face with Micellar water, since I was missing so much of my makeup and I’ve been raving about it to all of my friends ever since. Something about it is like a magnet for dirt, makeup and impurities and it pulls it right out of your pores. The results are all on your cotton round LOL.
What are your key points or advice in creating a success pitch?
I’m starting to get this question more and more, which isn’t a problem. I’m just realizing that I probably need to do an in-depth post on how to pitch to brands and what to cover. The main thing a brand wants to know is 1) who you are 2) what you do 3) what you want and 4) what’s in it for them. Brands want to work with people
My birthday is coming up in January. Can you suggest a cute two-piece set to wear for either dinner or brunch?
I love coordinate sets and actually wore one for my birthday the year before last. I specifically love pant and skirt options because I can mix and match them after whatever the occasion is. Here are some really cute and inexpensive options that could work for both dinner and brunch. Have fun!
That was as many questions as I could get around to this week, but I will answer any that remain next Friday! It’s almost 2018 and almost time to take it to the next level. I’m ready, are you? Submit any questions for next weeks #CoffeeTalk in the comments below or via email. May your holidays be full of love, peace and joy! xx
