Houston is a huge city, but our downtown area only employs a small percentage of our residents. Anytime I get to spend a day down there for work, I feel like I’m in an entirely different town. It’s unfamiliar to me, so it always feels fresh when I’m walking between big buildings and passing new faces. The only problem is, it’s summertime in Houston and walking downtown means braving 95+ degree days paired with an excessive amount of humidity. How do you spend 8 hours in and out of Houston heat without sweating through your clothes all while still feeling like a professional? It’s actually possible. I found this swing dress at Target a few weeks ago (also came in a really cute denim fade) and instantly made weekend plans for it. There’s no secret how I feel about olive, y’all see me in it often enough to know if they sell it in that shade I’ll purchase it. Beyond the color, it wasn’t until I wore it that I realized what I liked most about this dress was its lightweight linen material. It allowed a very necessary breeze but was lengthy enough to be deemed work appropriate. The collar helped, too.
I’ve been seeing collared swing dresses everywhere. I like the versatility of wearing them with canvas sneakers, sandals or a heel. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale had a good selection, but I rounded up a few of my favorites below.
