We all knew that Neutrogena made skincare, but it wasn’t until recently that I’d found out about their cosmetic line. I was in CVS one evening last week picking up some new facial products I’d hope would quickly clear-up a breakout I was having. After my engagement, things were in a whirlwind. I had little sleep, more than my fair share of celebratory champagne and family and friends in town that I hosted for days after. That same week, Hurricane Harvey touched down and we went from being stuck at home, to losing power and having to find a way to my sister’s house where we stayed for days. Even after the rain stopped, I couldn’t make it to work and we couldn’t go home because our townhouse was surrounded with water. Needless to say, my skin reflected everything I was going through and I was pretty desperate.
I was attempting to conceal all of my blemishes with make-up because I wasn’t comfortable without it, but wearing make-up only worsened the break out. My skin is pretty sensitive and can be very oily, so I was clogging my pores and needed a solution. Before I reached the check-out counter, I’d noticed a Neutrogena sign in the cosmetic section and to my surprise, I found Neutrogena SkinClearing makeup covers up and helps prevent breakouts while you wear it. After reading into it, I learned it was formulated for acne-prone skin and is the first liquid makeup foundation with Micro-Clear technology that not only treats blemishes, but also helps prevent emerging acne breakouts for clearer skin. I was sold. I ended up picking up the Neutrogena® SkinClearing® Liquid Makeup, Neutrogena® SkinClearing® Blemish Concealer, and Neutrogena® SkinClearing® Mineral Powder as well as their Nourishing Eyeliner, and Moisturesmooth Colorstick.
I wear makeup for at least 8 hours everyday throughout the week, so I need something easy to use that covers blemishes without clogging my pores. These Neutrogena cosmetics are long lasting, which is perfect for my hectic workweek. I meet with clients on a daily basis and there’s nothing more uncomfortable than having them stare at blemishes on your face. I want to feel comfortable, but more importantly I want to feel confident without looking overdone.
Here’s a step-by-step of how I’ve been applying my new Neutrogena products –
Step 1: Apply SkinClearing® Blemish Concealer
If I have any protruding blemishes that are noticeably red or forming, I use the blemish concealer to cover them as well as spot treatment and blend accordingly. This concealer is designed to help conceal blemishes and clear them up. Providing natural-looking coverage, this double-duty concealer reduces the visibility of acne and other blemishes while also helping improve your skin.
Step 2: Apply SkinClearing® Liquid Makeup
This foundation has Micro-Clear technology that boosts the power of salicylic acid by breaking through oil and unclogging pores for fast acne relief, which is ideal for me since I am prone to oily skin. Developed by dermatologists, this oil-free formula controls shine and won’t clog pores, since that’s how I was irritating my skin. I dab a few dime size drops onto a beauty blender and blend evenly onto my face, blending into my neck.
Step 3: Apply Skinclearing Mineral Powder
Next, I use a powder brush to brush this mineral powder over my T-zone since that’s where I get especially oily. This product also has a two-sided applicator that provides a fresh, shine-free look in case I need to touch up while I’m out for any reason. Containing minerals plus Micro-Clear technology with salicylic acid acne treatment, this non-comedogenic formula works to clear and help prevent breakouts while being gentle to skin. The compact also contains oil-absorbing powders for shine control that’s gentle on the skin.
Step 4: Finish with Eyeliner, Bronzer and a Nourishing Lipstick
Even on my busiest days, I need to add some color and dimension to my face so I at least look awake. I add this Neutrogena® Nourishing Eyeliner I picked up, topping it was mascara. It glides on so easily and lasts all day without smudging. I then apply bronzer and finish my look with a lip color. I got their Moisturesmooth Colorstick in “Classic Nude” and love that it doesn’t dry my lips out like most lipsticks. It’s almost like a lipstick + lip balm combo that you can wear all day.
Final Look:
I was really impressed with Neutrogena’s cosmetics, even after using their skincare for a decade. With their SkinClearing makeup, I’m ready to be out of the door in 10 minutes with full coverage without the risk of my makeup breaking me out. Can we say peace of mind? If you struggle with the oils of your everyday makeup breaking you out, pick this trio up the next time you pass a CVS up.
