I’ve been wanting to start a blog for over a year but am struggling coming up with a name. How did you come up with The B Werd?
There were two things that held me up the longest with this blog – designing the site and what the title would be. A lot of the blogs I followed had an “&” in the middle like “Cupcakes and Cashmere” or “Beauty and the Blog”, so for the longest I tried to think of something like that but nothing stuck. I started thinking more about the type of women the blog would be for, and how they’re often referred to as “bitches” because of their dominant personalities and strong attitudes, so that bred “b word”. My last name is Brand so I decided to mesh something personal with something that would spark attention, and since they are indeed my words – The B Werd was born.
How do you determine where to splurge and where to save when it comes to clothing and shoes?
I actually refrain from buying a lot of expensive items, especially trendy pieces. I’m willing to splurge on staple items, such as shoes, coats, denim, and purses as long as I’m sure I’ll be able to wear them five years from now. As far as pricing, I have a pretty strict budget I force myself to stick to. If it’s not in my “spending money” then I don’t purchase it. If I can’t afford to buy it five times comfortably, I don’t. For everyday items, stores like Zara, Forever21, Nordstrom and TJ Maxx, get the job done for me.
In a recent post you talked about how time consuming your blog is. Do you have any regrets about it?
My only regret is not starting it sooner, but I realize there’s a perfect time for everything. There are a LOT of opportunities that come with writing and connecting with all of you all. I know the vision that I have for this site and where it will go as a brand, so as anxious as I am to get it there I understand it takes time. Had I started sooner, I’d be closer than I am now.
I’ve been following you for quite a while and you’ve had perfect brows since before it was even popular! I have always wanted to know what products you use on your eyebrows, please do tell.
I rotate a few products, but nothing outside of these three and Nordstrom is currently price matching them all. This Spiked pencil is great for everyday use, I’ve purchased at least 10. I bought this brow Pomade almost two years ago and still haven’t ran out of it. It takes a little getting used to ’cause it’s pretty heavy but once you get the hang of it you’ll have flawless eyebrows daily for at least a year LOL. I use it with this brow brush and after two years, it’d held its shape and firmness. $20 well spent without a doubt. This is a pencil version of it, but just like the pomade – a little goes a long way.
I’ve always wanted to start a blog but have no clue where to begin. Do you have any suggestions?
Brainstorm. Brainstorm who your audience is going to be and what messages you want to get across to them. Brainstorm topics and posts that will last you several weeks so that your content will be consistent. Look at other blogs and determine what makes you want to read them as well as what you don’t like about them. Study colors you want to use and what emotions they’ll evoke from your readers. Then, just get started. It’s a lot of learning as you go and trial-and-error. Jump into it or you’ll be looking for a place to start forever.
You seem super straight forward in your posts. Has that hindered your dating life? What things do you consider intolerable?
I wouldn’t say that it has at all. I’ve always been pretty comfortable with who I was and I trust my instincts. If something doesn’t feel right, I’ll speak up. If there’s something I want to say, I will. The only possible outcomes are, you like what I’m saying or you don’t. Either way, I’m going to be fair to myself. Things I don’t tolerate are relatively understandable – disrespect, dishonesty, negativity, lack of ambition. That’s in friendships and relationships.
