We recently spent a few days in New York for Nate’s birthday and to be honest, the weather forecast was frightening for a Texas girl. I’m not a big fan of the city to begin with so throwing in freezing weather didn’t help me either. Make no mistake, I want to be warm just as much as I want to be fashionable but figuring out how to be both can be challenging.
I knew we’d be outdoors quite a bit walking from place to place so comfortability was key. I also knew that the warmest jacket I own is a zip-up fleece from The North Face that I’ve had since college. I knew the brand was dependable and once I came across this vintage white women’s parkina, I knew I’d found what I needed to explore NYC. I paired it with these heavyweight calfinated sweats that fit me so perfectly and a fur pom beanie to keep my ears warm. I wanted this parka so badly in New Taupe but it was sold out in my size at the time.
We were out of our hotel by 9 am and walked from breakfast at Jack’s Wife Freda’s where Jack’s Breakfast and Jack’s Burger is a must-try. Then we walked to The Standard for a spiked hot chocolate and ice skating. We also ended up at Bounce for a Sunday Funday vibe before getting ready for dinner that night. We went from place to place all day long in 33 degree weather and I not only survived, I enjoyed it – can you believe it?
If you’re planning to visit New York, I highly recommend eating at Bob White Counter. I wasn’t intrigued when Nate told me the name but I was so, so happy with the flavor of everything we ordered. The buffalo chicken sandwich is way better than any other I’ve ever had! If you’re interested in any other of our NYC details, let me know in the comments.

How crazy is it that I LIVE in New York, and have never heard of most of these restaurants? I’ll put them on my list to check out–the catfish plate at Bob White sounds delish!
