Fall is still a ways away, so while I’ll be getting my last few wears of cut-off shorts and backless tops in I’ll be anxiously awaiting it. If you all hadn’t seen on my Instastory, I’m purging many items in my closet – specifically my one time wear summer items that I either purchased for vacation or a special event that I know I’ll never wear again. I’m ready to be rotating boots, sweaters and scarves but this is Houston, so I’ll keep my fingers crossed. Nonetheless, I’ve already began ordering some fall items that I know will be staples for me. Here are a round-up of fall items you should buy right now to prepare for colder weather.
A Statement Coat
I invest in at least one good coat a year. A statement coat to me is one that I can wear with a very simple outfit that ties it all together. The right coat can make a t-shirt, pair of denim and boots look luxe.
Overthrow Jackets
These are jackets you can pair with denim, throw on over your shoulders or wear over a dress. They typically make your outfit and are a necessity.
Boots
I don’t wear boots because it’s cold outside, I wear them simply for looks. I always keep a pair of flat and heeled boots in rotation. Last year was my first year purchasing over-the-knee boots and I don’t regret it one bit. They took my fall looks to the next level.
Knit Sweaters
Houston winters don’t always warrant a jacket or coat, so chunky knit sweaters have become a favorite of mine. I love that I can wear them into the office with jeans and loafers or layer them with a coat if the temperature permits.
Longline Dusters
These are great not just in the fall, but year-round. I pull them out to go over shorts and blouses even in the warmer months. There’s something effortless about the flow of a duster that brings any outfit to life.
Accessories
Accessories are items I like to keep on hand because although they’re simple, they help tie things together. Hats, scarfs and statement flats will all be my collection for the upcoming season.

Thanks a bunch Courtney, I truly adore your sense of style. I am in the beginning stages of creating a “look” for myself and I love how you make even the most simple pieces look like a million dollars! The Brand Crew loves your style advice. Could you create a post dedicated to creating a staple wardrobe for the fall including accessories?
I work in a corporate environment but I don’t care to wear heels everyday. I’m definite a loafer lover/ flats kinda girl for my 9-5p (Cole Haan is my fav brand right now). Can you post some cute loafers that can be worn during the week day as well as the weekend?
Action! Verbs!
In past posts you’ve mentioned teaching your friends how to take your pictures, what tips or instructions to you give them? Your pictures are always magazine worthy!
